Prince Harry’s ‘selfish’ reason for being ‘deliriously happy’ after hearing Eugenie’s bombshell

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to delay a royal trip for Princess Eugenie’s wedding was a ‘selfish’ move, according to the Duke of Sussex in his memoir ‘Spare’

Prince Harry shared the “selfish” delight he felt when Princess Eugenie announced her engagement to Jack Brooksbank.

Celebrating her 35th birthday today (Sunday, March 23), Eugenie married Jack in 2018, a time when Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were still active members of the Royal Family.

In his contentious memoir Spare, Harry disclosed that news of Eugenie’s impending nuptials came shortly after he found out Meghan, now 43, was expecting their first child.

“Euge was getting married, to Jack, and we were deliriously happy for her and for ourselves, selfishly, since Jack was one of our favourite people,” he revealed.

“Meg and I were supposed to head off on our first official foreign tour as a married couple, but we delayed the departure several days, so we could be at the wedding,” reports the Express.

Harry also detailed in his book how the “various gatherings” surrounding the wedding provided him and Meghan an opportunity to share the “good news” of her pregnancy with the family.

The recollection of Harry and Meghan’s thoughtful decision to postpone their Royal trip in 2018 comes amid growing speculation about Harry’s ongoing future in his new home, the USA. His visa documents were made public earlier this week.

The Duke of Sussex’s visa papers were released following an FOI request by the conservative US thinktank Heritage Foundation, which claimed Harry had hidden his past illegal drug use, a fact he confessed in Spare.

In Spare, Harry confesses to experimenting with cocaine at 17 during a gathering at a friend’s house, describing the experience as neither enjoyable nor uplifting. He confessed: “I was a deeply unhappy 17-year-old boy willing to try almost anything that would alter the status quo.”

By 2025, Harry confronts fresh challenges, including strategising how he and Meghan can sustain their lifestyle by forging alliances with corporate giants like Netflix to boost their public image.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams suggests that a promising opportunity may lie with Netflix. Speaking to GB News, he indicated that the couple must be doing something right as they strive to extend their partnership with the streaming platform.

Fitzwilliams stated: “They have to get Netflix and have to keep them on board. I think they will get something from Netflix in the future, that seems to be the sign because the head of content at Netflix appeared to be appreciating their efforts in statements so that does imply that something is going to continue with Netflix.

“I would be amazed if it was anything like what they planned when they first signed the £80million. Whatever contract comes up, it appears there’s going to be some sort of continuation but it might be peanuts compared to the £80m.”
