Meghan Markle’s new online fashion store features a hidden detail that speaks volumes. The Duchess of Sussex announced her new ShopMy account – a collection of high-end clothing and accessories with some items featuring links through which commission can be earned if shoppers make a purchase.

She posted a ShopMy link in a story with the message: “Many of you have asked, so here you go! A little shopping to start the week. More to come”. A message on her ShopMy page then read: “A handpicked and curated collection of the things I love — I hope you enjoy them!” with the addition: “Please note, some products may contain commissionable links.”

The launch of the new shop comes just weeks after Meghan declared in her Netflix lifestyle show With Love, Meghan that her surname was no longer Markle and is instead Sussex – a nod to her royal title. And in the URL for her new account, Meghan uses her new initials MS rather than MM. The account also says it belongs to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

In her new Netflix show, which has faced brutal reviews, Meghan declared that she is no longer Markle but Sussex in the second episode of With Love, Meghan when she appears with actress Mindy Kaling. As the pair discuss fast food, Mindy says: “People wouldn’t believe that Meghan Markle ate at Jack in the Box.”

To which Meghan replies: “It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now. You have kids, and you go, ‘now I share my name with my children’…I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go ‘this is our family name, our little family name’.”

Meghan also doubled down on the name in an interview with PEOPLE magazine saying how meaningful the name Sussex was to her, while in an upcoming chat on the Drew Barrymore Show, Meghan is referred to as ‘Meghan Sussex’.

The late Queen granted Harry and Meghan the titles Duke and Duchess of Sussex following their wedding in 2018. Before Harry’s father Charles became King, their children Archie and Lilibet used Mountbatten-Windsor as their last name – but when he ascended to the throne, they became Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex. Now, informally, they go by Archie Sussex and Lilibet Sussex.

“It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children,” Meghan told People. “I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.

“I think as the kids get older, they’re so excited about, ‘Oh my gosh, Mama and Papa, how did you meet?’ I think that will come with time as they get older, but for right now a huge part of our love story is that we share the name Sussex.”

Meanwhile, the items on her ShopMy are mostly in her signature neutral colours and include an oversized white shirt by Reformation for £128, a beige Uniqlo raincoat costing £99.90 and a gold Maya Brenner Happiness Retreat citrine stone necklace, made in collaboration with Meghan’s former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer, for £383.

The collection also includes a pre-order link for a £712 handbag from Cesta Collective, a brand which she told the New York Times she had invested in last summer.

Other items include leather sandals made by shoe designer Emme Parsons for sale on luxury American department store Bergdorf Goodman’s website for 495 US dollars (£383). While some products are from high street chains like Gap, others are from small boutiques including a £395 brown blouse from Brochu Walker.
